General description
Laminin, an extracellular matrix (ECM) multidomain trimeric glycoprotein, is the major non-collagenous component of basal lamina that supports adhesion, proliferation and differentiation. It was initially isolated from mouse Engelbreth-Holm-Swarm (EHS) tumor (laminin-1). Laminin proteins are integral components of structural scaffolding in animal tissues. Laminins associate with type IV collagen via entactin and perlecan and bind to cell membranes through integrin receptors, dystrogylcan glycoprotein complex and Lutheran blood group glycoprotein.
